Artist Statement
My childhood was a quiet one with drawing and reading as my main activities. I had a career as child and adolescent psychiatrist who used art as a medium to reach my younger patients. I am a self-taught artist, and it is mainly the need to create and participate in the beauty of the world, which is at the origin of my act of creation. Beauty and serenity are part of my creative process. I did ten years of pastel portraiture and after that period I painted abstract landscape. Alternating between figurative and abstract art is part of my process to renew my creativity. My environment influenced my art. I used ferns, golden rods, herbs as stencils for my backgrounds. I used spray paint for the softness of its «rendu». My process is different if I intend to paint a cityscape, a landscape, or an abstract. My tools won’t be the same: paint rollers, knifes, spray, brushes, collage of metallic leaf, mortar…. I partly sketch my painting but most of the time, I will let the colors and forms guide me. I love this intuitive way to create, and I appreciate the lucky errors that pushes me out of the box. After pastel, acrylic has been my main media, but mix media has become my choice and I might soon add oil. My current exploration leads me to loosely mix figurative elements with abstract ones. Gold is one of my favorite colors. My main influencers are Klimt for the colors, and Riopelle for his creativity, and the way he used stencils. |
