Short Bio
Fernando Simões is an artist from São Paulo, born in 1965.
He has attended as a teenager, in the 80s, the free studio of the Lasar Segal's Museum and the classes of living model at the Pinacoteca of the state of São Paulo, with Professor José Maria Fernandez, architect and artist, that he had much of his learning. With him he also carried out some professional illustration work, such as covers of the books of the professor, historian, politician and journalist, Herodotus Barber.
At the time he had the opportunity to meet artists such as Claudio Tozzi and Wesley Duke Lee and Felix, artist member of the group Tarancón.
He graduated in architecture and urbanism at Mackenzie in the late 80's, with an interesting curriculum, which included everything from semiotics to sculpture with the master Caciporé Torres. At the same time, he also studied watercolor at Senac Dr. Vila Nova. After a period of almost 20 years in architecture offices, when he also married and developed a family, he moved to the corporate world, working in large companies, traveling throughout Brazil and abroad.
This sometimes very lonely life gave him many chances to see, observe and record. Drawing on the flights, in white side of the paper placemat at the restaurants and even during the endless lectures and workshops. He interrupted his career in construction after more than 40 years, dedicating himself since July 2022 exclusively to the visual arts as a profession.
It would be opportune here too, to include his brief experience as a novelist, with two short novels between 2017 and 2021. Fernando today is a man with many experiences, it was his expectation to be an artist even when he entered the faculty of architecture, things go in different ways especially when you are not responsible only for yourself. Artist, as he declares himself, never ceased to be, just did not live from art for many years. With a whirlwind of images, moments, experiences and fantasies to portray, Fernando restarts a trajectory with a new breath and repertoire ready to be shared by the world.

Artist Statement
"My work is born of small things, scenes of everyday life, seen, lived, not always totally linked to reality, but much adding to the imaginary, the playful, in a great soup of long-standing references.
There are many questions that arise in my work, since the theme comes from people, from everyday life, from moments of simple and special interactions and this accumulates in experiences of decades that sometimes comes to the surface catalyzed by multiple and unexpected stimuli.
The sub quotient acting on expression through the pure action of the intuitive.
From fragments of childhood and family life, strong influences of corporate life with its idiosyncrasies, but not only of own experiences, diverse observations as of urban life, of the people around me, inequalities, simple findings of sorrows and joys, life and people are infinite sources.
The result is expressed in figurative surfaces, usually presenting human forms, but in a particular way, since I abandoned almost completely the use of living or photographic models years ago, thus recreating the human figure using in this composition the weights of each element to compose the narrative of each scene portrayed.
The creative process allows steps of free expression, until the identification of the message and follows together intuition and intention until the final creation. The main forms of expression are: oil on canvas, colored pencils and graphite."
