Sylvain Demers lives in the Granby region. After traveling the world, teaching, being an actor, and writing dramatic and poetic works performed on stage or published, he discovered drawing at 45 and particularly enjoyed playing with colors.
A graduate in Visual Arts and holder of a 2nd cycle diploma in artistic practices in contemporary art from the University of Sherbrooke, he followed various training courses with recognized artists. This allowed him to develop a personal technique using various mediums that allow him to give free rein to his imagination. The superposition of intersecting and interweaving mediums provides his works with a multitude of interesting hues and tones.
He has already participated in group and solo exhibitions in the regions of Bas-Richelieu, Laurentides, the Eastern Townships, and Toronto.
Artist Statement
Whether it is through our lifestyle, the media, or the social networks that we consume, we form a large global web that unites us to each other. It is these different relational levels that I often seek to explore through visual arts and performance.
My work and my artistic research remain above all aesthetic and poetic and reveal an eternal quest for happiness, beauty, and the spiritual. Whether using strong images, symbols, the use of ropes or simply drawing lines, I play with the matter, colors, and human emotions by advocating freedom of gesture and will. to go to the viewer.
